Marvel Character Interaction Network


The Data

The data set used for this mapping includes all of the instances of characters interacting within the marvel universe. The network consists of 6426 vertices with 574477 edges in total. That is a lot of interactions!


The Data is contained in a hero-network.csv file where an edge is present between every first and second value. The data has been gathered from the Marvel Wikia and only shows if there has been an interaction between two characters. The data falls short on the number of interactions between specific characters and does not give any other relevant information.

Using the head() function in R we can see that the first few lines in the file contain the name of two characters.

The Graph

The graph was generated using the igraph package within the R programming language.

The Results

The two characters with the most connections are Captain America and Spiderman. This means that Captain America and Spiderman have interacted with the highest amounts of other characters in the Marvel universe.


Due to the formation of clusters it apparent that it is more likely for characters to interact if they both interact with another character.
